Gianni Castiglione named Pew Biomedical Scholar
The eyes of some bats may help Vanderbilt researcher Gianni Castiglione develop new ways to protect human sight. Castiglione, assistant professor of biological sciences in the College of Arts and Science and assistant professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences in the School of Medicine, has been named a Pew Biomedical Scholar. The award provides support to advance research that draws on evolutionary adaptations in animals to develop potential therapies for human disease.Read More

Southern Festival of Books announces initial lineup for 2026
Humanities Tennessee, in partnership with Vanderbilt University, announced the initial lineup of award-winning, bestselling authors who will headline the free 38th Annual Southern Festival of Books, taking place Oct. 17–18 at the Bicentennial Capitol Mall, the Tennessee State Museum and the Tennessee State Library and Archives. One of the oldest and largest literary events in the country, the festival will welcome thousands of attendees for panel sessions, discussions, book signings and readings.Read More
