Goldsmith, Gilchrist to lead Ingram Scholars Program
 
The Ingram Scholarship, one of Vanderbilt’s three signature merit-based scholarships for undergraduates, provides recipients with full tuition, all required fees and the value of on-campus housing each year. Following a committee-led search, Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs C. Cybele Raver has named Kelly Goldsmith the faculty director of the Ingram Scholars Program and Leigh Z. Gilchrist the program’s inaugural associate faculty director.

What started out as a service project for the Association of Vanderbilt Black Faculty and Staff affinity group quickly turned into a strong community partnership between members of the Vanderbilt community and Ida B. Wells Elementary School in East Nashville. Throughout the 2022–23 school year, faculty, staff and students put in more than 400 service hours with the school.

The National Science Foundation has granted $100,000 to Vanderbilt, Fisk and Tennessee State University to launch the Middle Tennessee Research Administration and Innovation Network, which focuses on developing regional research administration staff through a series of workshops to address disparities in regional research activity.

Vanderbilt University is partnering with NashFilm to provide two of the festival’s venues, Rothschild Black Box Theater and Sarratt Cinema. Founded in 1969 as one of the first film festivals in the United States, the Nashville Film Festival will host its 54th festival Sept. 28–Oct. 4.

Vanderbilt Wind Symphony and University Orchestra to make season debuts this weekend
 
The Vanderbilt Wind Symphony, conducted by Thomas Verrier, associate professor of conducting, will open its fall performance season on Friday, Sept. 22, with Symphonic Songs. The Vanderbilt University Orchestra will perform Rhythmic Tapestry on Saturday, Sept. 23, when Ernesto Estigarribia Mussi, assistant professor of conducting, will make his Blair conducting debut.

"Florence Price: A Celebration," a multi-event music festival, will pay tribute to the life, music and enduring legacy of a woman who broke barriers of race and gender in classical music. Taking place Oct. 3–Nov. 14 at venues across Nashville, the series is produced by Blair’s Douglas Shadle, associate professor of musicology.
