Vanderbilt joins The Precisionists, other employers in creating careers for 500 neurodiverse individuals in Nashville
 
Vanderbilt University and the Frist Center for Autism and Innovation at Vanderbilt are collaborating with The Precisionists, Inc., a Wilmington, Delaware-based company that assesses, trains and employs neurodiverse adults to carry out project-based consulting work. TPI anticipates steady growth in Nashville and plans to create more than 500 local jobs for adults with autism and neurodiversities within the next three to five years.

Diverse ’Dores Day, which allows students, staff, faculty and postdoctoral scholars to learn more about support and services offered to Vanderbilt’s diverse population, is today, Sept. 20, until 6 p.m. The event will end at Alumni Lawn with music, giveaways, treats from local restaurants and custom-made shirts.

Vanderbilt Law School professor Daniel Sharfstein will host a conversation with the National Trail of Tears Association’s Tory Wayne Poteete and the Oklahoma Historical Society’s Charles Tate on Thursday, Sept. 21, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Central Library Community Room. They will discuss research that contributed to Cherokee and Chickasaw Students at Vanderbilt, 1885–1899, an exhibit on display at Central Library through Sept. 29.

Flulapalooza is Sept. 27; high-dose vaccine will be available
 
Celebrate the 11th anniversary of the Flulapalooza mass influenza vaccination event on Sept. 27. This year, a high-dose vaccine will be available to faculty and staff who are eligible to receive it. The CDC recommends the high-dose flu vaccine for faculty and staff who are 65 and older, as it has been shown to be more effective in this age range than the standard flu vaccine.

For his “eclectic but refined, musical, talky and witty” poetry, renowned poet Major Jackson, professor of English, director of creative writing and holder of the Gertrude Conaway Vanderbilt Chair in the Humanities, has been awarded the 2023 Academy of American Poets Fellowship.

Chemical and biomedical engineer and cancer researcher Marjan Rafat has received the Young Innovator Award from the Cellular and Molecular Bioengineering division of the Biomedical Engineering Society. The CMBE Young Innovator Award is a distinguished honor for young faculty in the biomolecular engineering field.
