Vanderbilt to host Symposium on Universities, Cities and Communities Sept. 21–22
 
More than half of the world’s population lives in dense urban areas. The College of Arts and Science’s Grand Challenge Initiative on Cities is hosting a two-day symposium to address critical questions, such as: What makes a successful city, and how might universities and scholars introduce innovative ways of understanding cities, their problems and their solutions?

Celebrate Diverse ‘Dores Day Sept. 20
 
Diverse ’Dores Day, which allows students, staff, faculty and postdoctoral scholars to learn more about support and services offered to Vanderbilt’s diverse population, is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will end at Alumni Lawn with music, giveaways, treats from local restaurants and custom-made shirts.

New this academic year is “Vandy Cooks with Faculty,” where faculty from across the university will share their passion for cooking as they prepare their favorite dishes at monthly presentations. For the inaugural session, join Peter Lorge, associate professor of premodern Chinese and military history, as he shares two of his favorite Chinese recipes: dry-fried green beans and Yuxiang eggplant.
