A Vanderbilt Policy Accelerator for Political Economy and Regulation paper argues that banks should be treated as public utilities, like electricity and other essential services. The white paper by Vanderbilt Law professor Morgan Ricks and Columbia Law professor Lev Menand is the first policy proposal released by VPA, a Discovery Vanderbilt initiative.

Diverse ’Dores Day, which allows students, staff, faculty and postdoctoral scholars to learn more about support and services offered to Vanderbilt’s diverse population, is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will end at Alumni Lawn with music, giveaways, treats from local restaurants and custom-made shirts.

Alex Lupsasca wins New Horizons in Physics Prize from the Breakthrough Prize Foundation
 
Assistant Professor of Physics and Mathematics Alex Lupsasca has won a 2024 New Horizons in Physics Prize for his theoretical work on the interpretation of black hole images and his proposal of a new method for using super-powered telescopes to look closely at black holes and their invisible fingerprints called photon rings.
