Vanderbilt celebrates Juneteenth with faculty discussion, educational events |

Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion André L. Churchwell hosted a discussion with faculty members about the history and importance of Juneteenth in observance of the federal holiday. In addition to the conversation, on June 16 the Black Cultural Center hosted Vanderbilt’s annual event celebrating the holiday. “Juneteenth: Celebration of Freedom” featured several Black-owned food trucks, the rhythmic sounds of Nature’s Drummers, a DJ and numerous interactive and educational games.

The Limón Dance Company, which is in residency at Blair School of Music June 20 – July 1, is hosting a free, open-to-the-public outdoor movement class on Magnolia Lawn June 23 at 5 p.m. Limón’s regular classes in New York City’s Bryant Park have become popular events and the dancers look forward to bringing this experience to Nashville. Section of Natchez Trace to close starting June 19 for infrastructure project |
