    Alayna Hayes, an accomplished career services professional with extensive experience developing programming and content to promote student learning and engagement, has been named assistant provost and senior director of the Vanderbilt Career Center. 9.   NSF selects 40 from Vanderbilt as 2022 Graduate Research Fellows
    The National Science Foundation has selected a record 40 Vanderbilt students and alumni for its 2022 Graduate Research Fellowship Program, which supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, STEM education and in NSF-backed social science disciplines. 10.   Two Vanderbilt students named to Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship Program for New Americans
    Tao Hong, a second-year Ph.D. student in interdisciplinary materials science, and Hari Srinivasan, an incoming Ph.D. student in neuroscience, have been named to the 2022 cohort of the Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship Program for New Americans. This merit-based graduate award for immigrants and children of immigrants provides 30 fellows annually with up to $90,000 in funding to support their graduate studies. [ Read More ]
     
     
11.   Freshman engineering student earns Department of Defense SMART Scholarship
    Vanderbilt freshman Evelyn Marx has been selected as a SMART Scholar by the U.S. Department of Defense. The Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation Award is designed to enhance the DoD workforce with “talented, innovative and brilliant scientists, engineers and researchers.” [ Read More ]
     
     
12.   Vanderbilt students recognized with national awards for study of less commonly taught languages
    The Center for Second Language Studies held its award ceremony for student achievement in less commonly taught languages on April 25. Graduate and undergraduate students studying 12 different languages received recognition for special accomplishments in their study, including multiple external awards for study abroad and international internships employing their unique language skills. 13.   Vanderbilt jazz program again honored by ‘DownBeat’ magazine
    Vanderbilt Blair School of Music is among the winners of “DownBeat” magazine’s 45th annual Student Music Awards. For the first time in school history, the program received four awards in the same year, bringing its total number of awards from the magazine to nine over the past four years.
