Peabody College to help American University of Iraq–Baghdad design, launch new college of education |

Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of education and human development is working with the American University of Iraq–Baghdad to improve higher education and build a stronger teacher workforce in the region. The institutions were recently awarded a two-year, $2.5 million grant from the U.S. State Department to design and launch a new college of education focused on teacher training and development, with plans to seek Iraqi Ministry approval for the college by fall 2023.

Ten students from the Class of 2023 have been named as finalists for the Outstanding Senior award, one of the highest honors an undergraduate student can receive at Vanderbilt. Each of the nominees will be recognized, and the top Outstanding Senior will be announced, during halftime of the Commodores’ Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Vanderbilt special education student meets with the Dalai Lama, wins international award |

Noel Ifeanyi Alumona, a master’s degree student in special education at Vanderbilt’s Peabody College of education and human development, was among 26 young leaders from conflict-torn regions who travelled to India in September to meet with the Dalai Lama. In August he was recognized with the AFS Award for Young Global Citizens.

Vanderbilt Libraries has uploaded more than 48,000 historic photographs from the Vanderbilt University Photographic Archive to Vanderbilt’s media database in preparation of the university’s Sesquicentennial celebration in 2023. Current faculty, staff and students can access the historic photographs in the database after requesting initial access.

The deadline to register in Tennessee for the Nov. 8 state and federal general elections is Tuesday, Oct. 11. In an effort to keep the Vanderbilt community informed and make voting easier, the university has renewed its partnership with TurboVote, a platform that guides users through the voter registration process.
