The Vanderbilt community continues to Anchor Down and Step Up to help slow the spread of COVID-19. The university’s public dashboard, updated this morning, shows undergraduate students’ efforts to flatten their positive case curve last week. However, Vanderbilt continues to see positive cases—especially a rise in graduate and professional student COVID-19 cases over the last week.

The Office for Inclusive Excellence and Identity Centers are partnering with the University Counseling Center and Center for Student Wellbeing to provide the time and space for students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty and staff to be in community with one another Nov. 2–9.

VandyRide to provide free shuttle to polling places on Election Day, Nov. 3
 
VandyRide will provide a free shuttle to two voting locations, Murrell School and Eakin Elementary School, for students who wish to vote at their assigned polling location on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The deadline for students to register to ride the Election Day shuttle is 8 p.m. Monday.

University issues guidance related to 2020 election activities
 
Vanderbilt fully supports robust civic engagement by its students, faculty and staff, and as Election Day approaches, encourages all eligible members of the university community to exercise their right to vote. Vanderbilt is making a number of resources available to assist the community in participating in the democratic process; however, university resources or one’s Vanderbilt affiliation may not be used to support or oppose any candidate for public office.

Vanderbilt pilots return of indoor dining on campus
 
Beginning Monday, Nov. 2, the university will launch an indoor dining pilot at the Sarratt Student Center, Rand Hall and Heard Library Community Room, with the intention of expanding the pilot to The Commons Center Dining Room before the end of the fall semester.

West End Neighborhood virtual town hall set for Nov. 4
 
Undergraduate students and their families are invited to a virtual town hall meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 4, to discuss ongoing construction in the West End Neighborhood as well as student housing in the area. The virtual meeting is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m. and will be conducted via Zoom.

The Latin American Public Opinion Project’s efforts never stopped when Vanderbilt closed labs in mid-March due to COVID-19. Instead, director Elizabeth Zechmeister’s team pivoted to exclusively remote work and tackled the monumental task of overhauling research protocols to acquire data that reveals new insights about the pandemic’s effects on democracy.
