Betty Chiles Nixon, a pioneering civil and women’s rights activist who left a lasting mark on Vanderbilt University, its surrounding neighborhoods and the community, died Aug. 29.


 
 

Troxel named director of Vanderbilt University DIVE initiative

Associate Professor of the Practice of Civil and Environmental Engineering Lori A. Troxel will lead the creation and implementation of the Design as an Immersive Vanderbilt Experience (DIVE) program, which has been selected as Vanderbilt University’s Quality Enhancement Plan.

Four alumni to join Vanderbilt Student Media Hall of Fame in 2016

Wendell “Sonny” Rawls, Pat Nolan, Vanessa Beasley and Andrew Maraniss will be inducted into the Student Media Hall of Fame for having demonstrated leadership in student media and then distinguished themselves in careers that include journalist, political analyst, Vanderbilt dean and best-selling author.


 
 

Diverse degrees and opportunities draw new School of Nursing students

Vanderbilt University School of Nursing has welcomed 478 new students from 45 states and three countries into its Master of Nursing Science, Doctor of Nurse Practice and Ph.D. degree programs.


 
 

AlertVU test scheduled for Sept. 7

Vanderbilt will conduct a test of its AlertVU emergency notification system on Wednesday, Sept. 7. AlertVU sends emergency messages in the event of an imminent threat or danger to the Vanderbilt community.


 
 

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion welcome reception is Sept. 8

The Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion will host a welcome reception to celebrate the new academic year on Thursday, Sept. 8. All Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff are invited to attend.


 
 

Marine Corps Leadership Seminar is Sept. 9

The 39th Marine Corps Leadership Seminar, in conjunction with Marine Week Nashville, is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 9, at the Owen Graduate School of Management. This event will expose students, faculty and staff to the leadership of the Marine Corps through ethical case studies, team building, panel discussions and lectures.

Vanderbilt University is ranked 22nd in the Best National Universities category in the 2016 “Washington Monthly” college rankings—up from No. 25 last year.


 
 

Today’s football opener will affect some automobile parking

The Vanderbilt football team opens its 2016 season Thursday with a nationally televised game against South Carolina. With the game being played on a workday, some adjustments to parking and traffic flow are necessary.

Reminder: Labor Day time reporting

As a reminder, employees who do not work on Labor Day, Sept. 5, should report their time off as PTO. Vanderbilt University’s enhanced program, which separates holidays from PTO, takes effect Oct. 1.
