Remembering Floyd Dennis, disability civil rights advocate

H. Floyd Dennis, professor of special education, emeritus, died April 17 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was 89. As a Vanderbilt Kennedy Center researcher, Dennis was founding director of the Kennedy Center Institute on Youth and Social Development.

Alumni of Appalachian Student Health Coalition to hold panel discussion Friday

Alumni who helped start the paradigm-changing Appalachian Student Health Coalition will present a panel discussion from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, May 19, in the Heard Library Community Room. The coalition was founded by Vanderbilt medical, law, nursing and undergraduate students in 1970 to reach out to medically underserved communities in upper East Tennessee, Eastern Kentucky and Southwest Virginia.


 
 

Mapped drives to be unavailable during VUIT maintenance Sunday

The VU1File share service will not be available from 6 to 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 21, while Vanderbilt IT performs maintenance. Many university users utilize this service to store files on the server.


 
 

Vanderbilt biking classes scheduled for Nashville Bike Month

May is Nashville Bike Month, and there are plenty of opportunities to strap on a helmet and get on your bike. Biking is a sustainable, cost-effective way to get around town while getting some exercise.

SkyVU will host its second Flight Check-In on June 7 from 2 to 3 p.m. in The Commons Center’s Multipurpose Room. This session will inform the community about timekeeping and expense report changes.


 
 

2017 Youth Sports Safety Gala and Conference set for July 13-14

Participants will learn strategies to help prevent youth sports-related injuries, protect the health of pediatric athletes, and improve their physical literacy. Health professionals, coaches, teachers and parents are invited to attend.
