Vanderbilt MLK Day celebration explores ‘Justice Through Collective Action’

Vanderbilt University’s 2018 Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Series will explore “Justice Through Collective Action: Fighting Oppression Without Suppression” and feature a keynote address by Michael Eric Dyson beginning at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15 in Langford Auditorium. Other activities planned for the day include the Nashville Freedom March, freedom rides and teach-ins. See the full schedule of events.


 
 

Search committee named for new dean of College of Arts and Science

Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Susan R. Wente has appointed a search committee comprising faculty, students and alumni from a broad array of disciplines to identify the next dean of Vanderbilt’s College of Arts and Science.


 
 

Vanderbilt launches new Title IX and Student Discrimination, Student Access Services, Equal Employment Opportunity offices

Vanderbilt officially launched today its new offices that offer specialized services in three priority areas. Title IX and Student Discrimination, Student Access Services and Equal Employment Opportunity will replace the former Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action and Disability Services.


 
 

Provost’s Open Dore On Location at Black Cultural Center tomorrow

The first Open Dore On Location of 2018 is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center. All faculty and staff are invited to attend this informal discussion session with Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Susan R. Wente. In addition, the Office of the Provost invites faculty to submit proposals for the next round of Discovery Grants and Research Scholar Grants.


 
 

Cobb, staff writer for ‘The New Yorker,’ to discuss racial protest in America Wednesday

Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos will host a discussion on Wednesday, Jan. 17, featuring Jelani Cobb, the Ira A. Lipman Professor of Journalism at Columbia University and a staff writer for “The New Yorker” magazine. Cobb’s talk is titled “From Louis Armstrong to the NFL: Racial Protest in America.”
