Committee identifies faculty liaisons to inform public engagement work; town hall is Feb. 20

To gather input from a diverse array of voices across campus, the Committee on Enhancing Faculty Voices in the Public Sphere has asked Vanderbilt’s deans to recommend faculty liaisons representing the university’s schools to inform its work, and will conduct a town hall meeting on Feb. 20.

A lecture related to little-known African American sports history on Feb. 7 will lead off a series of events celebrating African American History Month at the Central Library.


Award-winning author Edwidge Danticat to discuss Haiti and works Feb. 8

Author Edwidge Danticat, considered a voice of both Haiti and the United States on topics of immigration and citizenship, is a strong advocate for issues affecting Haitians abroad and at home.


Faculty input sought at Big Data town halls Feb. 8 and 9

In partnership with the Faculty Senate, the Data Science Visions Working Group seeks to gather input from faculty colleagues through a series of town hall-style conversations.


‘Gun Violence Prevention: A Community Conversation’ Feb. 14

A panel discussion on gun violence prevention, along with a moderated public debate, will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

Vanderbilt Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos will host a discussion Tuesday, Feb. 20, featuring former Hewlett-Packard Chairman and CEO Carly Fiorina and Vanderbilt Distinguished Visiting Professor and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham.


Employee Appreciation Women’s Basketball Fan Fest set for Feb. 25

Vanderbilt University employees and their families are invited to cheer on the Vanderbilt women’s basketball team as they take on the Arkansas Razorbacks Sunday, Feb. 25. The free Employee Appreciation event begins with a Fan Fest at 12:30 p.m. in the Memorial Practice Gym, followed by the game at 2 p.m.

Ben Bernanke, former chair of the Federal Reserve, will participate in “A Conversation with Ben Bernanke” March 14 as part of the Steine Lecture Series.


Save the dates for Shared Governance town halls

The Shared Governance Committee will host a pair of town hall meetings in March to discuss and receive feedback on its report regarding shared governance at Vanderbilt.

From Jan. 8 through mid-February, the SkyVU team will offer weekly support meetings designed for specific roles.


Reminder: VUPD has designated area for safe exchange of items bought, sold online

Vanderbilt University Police Department has designated an “Exchange Area” or “Safe Deal Zone” to provide a safe environment for Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff to trade legal new or used items bought or sold online through various apps.
