The ‘shine’ in gold particles has a new use – finding defects

Vanderbilt researchers have developed a technique of infusing tiny gold nanoparticles into plastic polymer used in 3D printed materials. With this method, the gold nanoparticles “light up” and can find defects.

“Vandy Goes to War,” an exhibition highlighting the dramatic effects of two world wars on Vanderbilt’s campus, is on display in the Central Library lobby through Reunion/Homecoming weekend.


 
 

‘Joyce Tenneson—Botanical Beauty’ opens at Fine Arts Gallery July 26

Selections from two series of flower studies by celebrated portrait photographer Joyce Tenneson will be on view at the Vanderbilt Fine Arts Gallery beginning July 26. Summer gallery hours are Tuesday–Friday, noon–4 p.m.; Saturdays, 1–5 p.m.; and closed Sundays and Mondays.


 
 

Nominate a staff member for Chancellor’s Heart and Soul award

Nominations are open for the Chancellor’s Heart and Soul Staff Appreciation Awards, which recognize everyday dedication and contributions. The deadline is July 31.


 
 

Dore Jam set for Aug. 4

Vanderbilt Athletics’ annual fan day activity, Dore Jam, is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility, offering fans an opportunity to meet their favorite Commodore student-athletes, get autographs, listen to live music and participate in an array of family-friendly activities.

The device is from the lab of Professor Michael Goldfarb, perhaps best known for working on a bionic leg with shark attack victim Craig Hutto and later developing the Indego exoskeleton.
