University condemns racist emails; investigation reveals external attack

Vanderbilt University Information Technology has found that the racist, white supremacist emails received by members of the Vanderbilt community this week were sent from external systems using sophisticated masking techniques.

Virginia George, originator of VUSN’s family nurse practitioner program, dies

Virginia Maxwell George, professor of nursing, emerita, and an early champion of nurse practitioners, died July 26 in Nashville. George was founding director of Vanderbilt’s Family Nurse Practitioner Program, one of the first in the Southeast.


 
 

Three VU doctoral students receive 2018 Gilliam Fellowships for Advanced Study

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute has awarded 2018 Gilliam Fellowships for Advanced Study—created to ensure that a diverse and highly trained workforce is prepared to assume leadership roles in the sciences—to three Vanderbilt University doctoral students and their advisers.


 
 

New Campus Planning and Construction office created

Effective Aug. 1, the Renovation and Small Construction office will merge with the Office of Capital Projects to form the Campus Planning and Construction team. The merge will offer the campus community streamlined customer service by creating one point of contact for planning, design and construction services.


 
 

VERITAS upgrade is today

VERITAS, VU’s reporting system for employee or visitor injuries, property or auto damage, safety concerns, complaints or other incidents requiring Risk Management review, will be upgraded on Thursday. For approximately eight hours the tool will not be available for use.


 
 

Dore Jam set for Saturday

Vanderbilt Athletics’ annual fan day activity, Dore Jam, is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility, offering fans an opportunity to meet their favorite Commodore student-athletes, get autographs, listen to live music and participate in an array of family-friendly activities.


 
 

Vandy Chills Employee Appreciation ice cream event is Aug. 9

Chill out from the heat and take part in the Vandy Chills Employee Appreciation event on Thursday, Aug. 9. Pick up a frozen treat of your choice on Library Lawn or at one of the ice cream truck stops across campus.


 
 

Check out ‘The Star Chamber’ during a Day at Dyer Observatory Aug. 10

A “Day at Dyer” is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 10, from noon to 4 p.m. and will feature fun activities for both children and adults. One of Dyer’s unique features is “The Star Chamber,” a land sculpture and camera obscura conceived by artist Chris Drury.
