Teaching Assistant Orientation (TAO) 2005

Below is a description of TAO 2005.

The Center for Teaching (CFT) invites graduate and professional students from all schools and departments to attend TAO in the year they assume teaching duties at Vanderbilt. These duties may include but are not limited to: leading a lab or discussion section, holding office hours, running review sessions, and grading.

Teaching Assistant Orientation (TAO)
August 15 - 17, 2005

For First-time TAs at Vanderbilt

  • Tuesday, Aug. 16 (11:30 – noon)
    Wyatt Center, Peabody Campus

    Registration and lunch (provided)

  • Tuesday, Aug. 16 (noon - 5:00)
    Wyatt Center, Peabody Campus

    Join other new TAs in your discipline for a day of exploring teaching through a variety of formats and topics, including facilitating office hours and review sessions; Vanderbilt's honor code; campus resources for teachers; strategies for grading lab reports, problem sets, & papers; leading engaging discussion sections; running effective labs.

  • Wed., Aug. 17 (8:30 – noon)
    Various Locations

    Practice teaching in disciplines - Give a 5-minute demonstration of teaching in your field and receive feedback on your teaching from experienced TAs in your department or discipline. You'll receive more information about these sessions and how to prepare for them on August 16.

NOTE: Because the sessions of TAO have been designed as an integrated whole, please plan on attending both days of the event.
